Car manufacturer Volvo Cars sees the goal of selling only electric cars by 2030 as problematic. It plans to continue producing cars with hybrid propulsion even after this date. Minister Rakušan explained the circumstances of hundreds of threatening letters at primary and secondary schools concerning the possible explosion of a bomb. In the USA, an auction sold an obscure portrait from the workshop of the famous old master Rembrandt van Rijn. It was found in an attic among other items. Four victims are the result of a firearms attack at a high school in the state of Georgia.
Swedish automaker Volvo Cars on Wednesday canceled its goal to switch to electric propulsion by 2030 and stated that at that time it will still offer some hybrid models. Major car manufacturers have seen slowing demand for electric vehicles, particularly due to a lack of affordable models and slow introduction of charging locations. They are also preparing for the impacts of European tariffs on electric vehicles made in China.
Volvo Cars company stated in its announcement that by 2030, 90% to 100% of the cars sold should be fully electric or plug-in hybrid models, with up to 10% being so-called mild-hybrids, where the electric drive only supplements the combustion engine, wrote the agency Reuters.
Interior Minister Vít Rakušan informed about the police procedure in the case of extensive bomb threats in schools. In the first days of the new school year, it concerned thousands of Czech schools. The Czech Police cooperate on the case with colleagues from Slovakia, who are dealing with similar problems.
"We do not underestimate the situation, the attack is unprecedented. We have seen this modus operandi in the past in other parts of Europe. The primary is to protect students and educators from the threat, the secondary is to locate the author of the threats,"
Minister Rakušan commented on the case according to ČTK.
An art appraiser and auctioneer Kaja Veilleux discovered the painting "Portrait of a Girl" from the 17th century by Dutch painter Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn in an attic of an estate in Camden, Maine, USA. A label on the back of the frame stated that the painting had been loaned to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for an exhibition in 1970.
Rembrandt, born in 1606, was a prolific artist who tackled a range of subjects, from portraits through landscapes to historical and biblical scenes. The portrait of the girl was painted on an oak panel and set in a hand-carved golden Dutch frame. In the end, a European collector paid 1.41 million dollars for the picture, reported AP agency.

The shooting was the first in the new school year in the United States and served as a clear reminder to students, teachers, and parents of the threat of violence committed by firearms in schools and colleges across the country. During the shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, four people died and nine people with injuries were taken to hospitals, Reuters agency wrote about the incident.
